1. Small elastic modulus
The elastic modulus is twice larger than that of wood, but smaller than that of steel, so the product has insufficient rigidity and is easily deformed. However, it can be made into a thin shell structure or a sandwich structure, or it can be compensated by using high modulus fibers or reinforcing ribs.
2. Poor long-term temperature resistance
FRP generally cannot be used at high temperatures for a long time. The strength of general-purpose polyester FRP will drop significantly when it is above 50°C, and is generally only used below 100°C. The strength of general-purpose epoxy FRP will drop significantly when it is above 64°C. However, you can choose high-temperature resistant resin to keep its long-term working temperature between 200°C and 300°C.
3. Low interlaminar shear strength
The interlaminar shear strength is borne by the resin, so it is very low. The private bonding force between layers can be enhanced by selecting processes and using coupling agents. During product design, damage to layers should be avoided as much as possible.
4. Aging phenomenon
Aging is a common defect of plastics, and FRP is no exception. Under the action of ultraviolet rays, wind, sand, rain, snow, chemical media, mechanical stress, etc., the performance can easily be weakened.
